Stellenbosch and Cape Town Universities Laboratory

During the workshop in Botswana on the establishment on the Ref labs for CISM-Malaria and BHP-HIV, in Botswana-Gaborone, from 10 to 12 June 219, it was decided that there was a need to also focus on establishment of the TB reference laboratory for the TESA Network and therefore there was also a need to investigate the Stellenbosch University’s (SUN) readiness to become TB reference laboratory for the TESA network and investigate whether UCT was able to serve as backstop of SUN.
Based on the above, the TESA Coordination team has decided to allocate resources and support DATOS B.V, the consultant, to perform as well the visits at both universities.

On 22 and 23 July 2019, a team composed by DATOS, represented by Tjeerd Datema, Eusébio Macete, the TESA consortium leader and Rodrigues Matcheve, the TESA Project Coordinator Officer both from CISM, have visited UCT and SUN. The main objective was to assess SUN’s and UCT’s current structure, capacity, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to become TB Reference Laboratories for the TESA network in complementary to the Malaria and HIV’s already established.
The outcomes will be provided in due course by the Consultant, DATOS.
